Application Developer

Application Developers design, develop, and test software solutions for businesses and end users. They analyse problems, create innovative solutions using modern programming tools, and build everything from interactive web frontends to complex enterprise backends.

At SIVT, this training follows the official Swiss Federal curriculum of Swiss Federal ICT curriculum, combining structured self-paced learning with real project work at partner companies.

The following table provides an overview of the core modules completed throughout the programme. Each module is grounded in the official Swiss Federal curriculum and builds progressively on the skills acquired in previous years. Passing each module is required before advancing to the next. Students design and implement small to medium-sized applications. They analyse requirements, create a design, implement it in a programming language, and document the result. This module forms the foundation of structured software development.
M 164	Create Databases and Insert Data	Data Management	Year 1
Students create relational databases using SQL. They design entity-relationship models, normalise data structures, and insert, query, and manipulate data. This module establishes core data management skills used throughout the programme.
M 293	Create and Publish a Web Presence	Web Engineering	Year 1
Students plan, build, and publish a web presence using HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript. They learn the fundamentals of web standards, accessibility, and responsive design to create functional and user-friendly websites.
M 320	Object-Oriented Programming	Application Engineering	Year 2
Students apply object-oriented principles — classes, inheritance, encapsulation, and polymorphism — to design and implement software. This module deepens programming competence and prepares students for complex application development.
M 294	Implement the Frontend of an Interactive Web Application	Web Engineering	Year 2
Students implement the user-facing side of web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks. They build interactive UIs, manage state, and connect to backend APIs to deliver complete frontend experiences.
M 295	Implement the Backend for Applications	Web Engineering	Year 2
Students design and implement server-side logic for web applications. They build REST APIs, handle authentication, manage databases, and ensure the security and performance of backend services.
M 426	Develop Software Using Agile Methods	Application Engineering	Year 2
Students apply agile methodologies — including Scrum and Kanban — to plan, execute, and deliver software projects. They work in teams, manage sprints, and reflect on their process to continuously improve.
M 323	Functional Programming	Application Engineering	Year 3
Students explore functional programming concepts such as pure functions, immutability, higher-order functions, and recursion. They apply these principles to write more predictable, testable, and maintainable code.
M 183	Implement Application Security	Application Engineering	Year 3
Students identify common security vulnerabilities in applications (such as OWASP Top 10) and implement measures to protect against them. They learn secure coding practices, input validation, authentication, and authorisation mechanisms.
M 324	Support DevOps Processes with Tools	Application Engineering	Year 4
Students use DevOps tools to automate build, test, and deployment pipelines. They work with version control systems, CI/CD platforms, and containerisation tools to streamline the software delivery process.

Monthly Tuition CHF 500 per month

Final Examination Fee CHF 3,000 (one-time). Upon passing, CHF 1,500 is reimbursed.

Programme Start September 2026 / February 2027. Online enrolment is generally possible at any time.

Minimum Age 16 years (completed secondary education required). For applicants under 18, a parent or legal guardian must co-sign the training agreement.
